The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has debunked reports circulating on social media that some police officers were killed in a crash at a checkpoint in Ibesikpo-Asutan Local Government Area.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at Ikot Obio Odongo along the Aka-Nung Udoe Road, where a video showing a damaged vehicle sparked claims that police personnel had lost their lives.
However, the police said the reports were false, confirming that no officer was killed or injured in the incident.
The command’s spokesperson, Timfon John, said the incident happened at about 1:40 p.m. while officers were conducting a stop-and-search operation at the checkpoint.

According to the police, officers had stopped a minibus driven by a man identified as Anietie when a Lexus car allegedly travelling at high speed crashed into the stationary vehicle from behind.
Both vehicles were later taken to a police station for investigation and documentation.
The police urged members of the public to disregard the claim that officers died in the crash and warned against spreading unverified information capable of causing panic.
