The Nigerian Navy has launched an offensive against militants and kidnappers along the Calabar–Oron channel in Cross River State, destroying a hideout linked to a wanted kingpin, the service said on Saturday.
Director of Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, said in a statement that the operation was carried out by Nigerian Navy Ship Victory and Forward Operating Base Ibaka, and targeted Dayspring Island following a surge in kidnappings and related crimes in the area.
The offensive led to the destruction of a hideout linked to a long-wanted militant identified as “Juju” in the Idung axis, Folorunsho said. He added that the operation was supported by a new forward security outpost at Idung 1, also known as Peacock Crossing, giving troops a strategic base to control surrounding creeks and waterways.

Naval personnel worked with troops of the Nigerian Army 13 Brigade. Folorunsho said the advance forced suspected militants to flee their camps while key waterways were secured and movement restricted.
“Exploitation of the area led to the discovery and destruction of a militant hideout linked to a notorious suspect known as ‘Juju’ in the Idung axis,” he said.
