Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have uncovered a suspected fraud syndicate in Ota, arresting 23 foreign nationals linked to an alleged Ponzi scheme, visa scam, and other immigration-related offences.
The suspects were apprehended during a targeted raid carried out by officers of the Atan-Ota Division, following credible intelligence on suspicious activities at a residential building located within an estate off Iyana Iyesi, Onipanu-Ota.
Confirming the operation, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, stated that the raid took place on August 4, 2026, at about 11:00 am. He explained that police operatives swiftly secured the premises and arrested all suspects found at the location.
According to him, preliminary investigations revealed evidence of fraudulent operations, including the recovery of a Malian international passport bearing the name Diakite Alfousseini.
Babaseyi further disclosed that 21 of the suspects have been handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further investigation into immigration violations, while two individuals are being held by the police for prosecution over offences bordering on obtaining by false pretence and related crimes.

He added that investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the syndicate’s activities and identify other accomplices who may still be at large.
In a separate development, operatives of the Itele Division arrested a suspected armed robber following a distress call from a commercial motorcyclist.
The victim reported that two passengers he picked up attempted to rob him at gunpoint along Orji Block Area in Itele. Acting promptly, police officers mobilised to the scene and arrested one suspect, identified as Babatunde Olasunkanmi, while his accomplice escaped with the victim’s motorcycle.
Items recovered from the suspect include a locally fabricated double-barrel pistol, criminal charms, a Tecno Android phone, and a UBA ATM card.
Police authorities confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplice, while the arrested suspect and recovered exhibits will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
