Madonna University Nigeria has strongly refuted social media allegations linking the death of a student, William Fubara, to bullying and violence on campus, describing the claims as false, misleading, and damaging to its reputation.
In a statement issued by the Office of the Director of Communications and Public Affairs, the institution clarified that the late student did not die on campus and was not a victim of any form of physical assault within the university environment.
According to the university, William Fubara, a 100-level Psychology student at the Okija campus in Anambra State, passed away at his home during the Easter break, contrary to viral claims suggesting he died following an attack linked to bullying.
“At no time was Mr. William Fubara, or any other student, subjected to physical assault or abuse on campus,” the statement emphasized.
The institution also dismissed online reports alleging that the incident occurred over the Easter weekend, noting that students were away from school at the time.
“One report alleged that Mr. Fubara was killed last weekend. This claim is clearly false, as students were still away on Easter break,” it added.
Madonna University further stated that it has identified individuals responsible for circulating the viral narratives, adding that some have reportedly admitted involvement and, alongside their parents, sought forgiveness.

While describing the situation as deeply unfortunate, the university urged the public to desist from spreading unverified claims, especially in sensitive cases involving loss of life.
“Sensational narratives and emotionally charged speculation only deepen pain and foster unnecessary division,” the statement warned.
The institution extended its condolences to the bereaved family, describing the loss as painful and confirming that it is maintaining communication with them.
It also disclosed that a three-man delegation has been set up to represent the university at the burial scheduled to take place in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Meanwhile, viral social media reports had alleged that Fubara’s death followed months of bullying and an off-campus attack, claims the university has firmly rejected as inaccurate and unverified.
Madonna University reaffirmed its commitment to discipline, student welfare, and transparency, urging the public and media to rely only on confirmed information as investigations and official processes continue.
