
The management of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology has mourned the death of three people following a stampede that occurred after a convocation celebration in Ikere-Ekiti.
In a statement issued by the Registrar, Funmilola Adeusi, the university confirmed that two graduates and one student lost their lives in the tragic incident.
The institution explained that its second convocation ceremony was held peacefully on campus. However, after the event, some graduates and students organised a private party at Emirate Hotel, where the stampede occurred.

According to available information, the stampede started after a fight broke out during the crowded night party. The disagreement caused panic among attendees, and as people rushed to escape the scene, many were pushed and trampled in the process.
The management expressed deep sadness over the loss, extending condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the victims.
It also stressed that the incident did not happen within the school premises and that all official convocation activities were conducted safely.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force in Ekiti State has begun an investigation into the incident. The police spokesperson, Sunday Abutu, said the Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, has ordered a full probe to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
Authorities said further updates will be provided as investigations continue.
