A mechanic identified simply as Samson has reportedly been killed after he was allegedly lured to the Abijo area of Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, under the pretext of repairing a Mercedes-Benz car.
The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday, September 15.
Samson, who operated a mechanic workshop around Warike Estate, was said to have received a request to repair a Mercedes-Benz and travelled to the location where the vehicle was reportedly situated.
However, upon arriving at the location, he was allegedly taken into a nearby bush and hacked to death.
A police source said investigations were ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify those responsible. The source also said suspected cultists were believed to be linked to the incident.
An anti-cultism advocacy platform reportedly claimed that the killing was connected to an alleged cult-related retaliation following the death of an Eiye member, Ola Sheu, around Adeba Bus Stop in the Lakowe area of Ibeju-Lekki on September 9.

The platform alleged that a photograph of Samson wearing an Aye cult beret during his graduation had later circulated, which it claimed exposed his alleged identity to rival cult members.
However, the Lagos State Police Command said the victim’s family had initially reported that Samson was missing.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident and said detectives visited the victim’s apartment after receiving the report.
She added that efforts were ongoing to track Samson’s mobile phone and locate him, while the investigation into the case continued.
