The Kwara State Government has rescued 30 children, aged between two and 15, from an unapproved orphanage and children’s home in Ilorin.
The operation was carried out by the State Ministry of Social Development following concerns over the children’s welfare and living conditions at the facility, identified as Iranlowo Oluwa Orphanage and Children’s Home.
The rescued children have been moved to a government-approved shelter, where they are receiving medical care, nutritional support and psychosocial counselling.

The ministry said it has also commenced family tracing and reunification efforts, while children who cannot be reunited with their families may be placed in approved care facilities after proper assessment and documentation.
Meanwhile, the Association of Orphanages and Home Operators in Nigeria (ASOHON), Kwara State chapter, said the facility was not a registered or recognised member of the association and condemned practices that could endanger children’s safety and welfare.
