Suspected militias reportedly set some houses ablaze while retreating after troops foiled an attempted attack on Manja community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2026, according to security analyst Zagazola Makama.
Reports indicate that troops of Sector 8, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), moved to intercept the suspected attackers after receiving information about their movement towards the community.
The assailants allegedly opened fire after sighting the troops, prompting the security personnel to engage them and force them to retreat into the forest.

During their withdrawal, the suspects reportedly set some houses on the outskirts of the community ablaze.
The troops subsequently cleared the area and returned to base, while efforts were ongoing to determine the extent of damage caused by the fire.
Security personnel have reportedly remained vigilant in the area as investigations continue and efforts are made to track the fleeing assailants.
