
A senior non-commissioned officer (SNCO) at the Kuje Medium Security Custodial Centre in Abuja has died after allegedly firing at his commanding officer during duty hours.
The incident occurred at about 9:37 a.m. on Monday, September 7, 2026, while personnel were carrying out their duties at the correctional facility.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the officer allegedly fired at the commander but missed after the superior officer moved away.

The situation later took a tragic turn when the SNCO was reportedly found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.He subsequently died from the injury.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, while an investigation has been launched to determine what led to the shooting and the officer’s subsequent actions.
The deceased officer’s remains were evacuated to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH) for further action.
Authorities are expected to provide more details as the investigation progresses.
