
A personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, identified simply as Mr. Ayo, has been killed while his daughter was abducted during a fresh bandit attack on Odo-Ere in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State. The attack occurred on Monday evening and threw the community into panic as armed assailants invaded the area.
Sources said the NSCDC officer was shot by the attackers during the incident and rushed to a medical facility for treatment. He later succumbed to his injuries. The gunmen also abducted the officer’s first daughter before fleeing the community.

Residents who spoke on the incident expressed concern over the worsening security situation in the area and called on security agencies to intervene urgently to prevent further attacks. The latest incident has heightened fears among residents of Odo-Ere and surrounding communities, who have repeatedly complained about recurring cases of kidnappings and armed attacks.
The attack comes amid growing concerns over insecurity in parts of Kogi and neighbouring Kwara State. In recent months, there have been several reported incidents of kidnappings, banditry and violent attacks across communities in both states, with residents accusing authorities of failing to adequately address the persistent security threats.
As of press time, security authorities had yet to issue an official statement regarding the killing of the NSCDC officer and the abduction of his daughter.
