Residents of Ejuku community in Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State have called on the state government to urgently rehabilitate Alalodu Secondary School, which has reportedly remained abandoned for more than two years.
The school, described as the only community secondary school serving the area, is reportedly in a deplorable condition, with damaged roofs, crumbling walls and overgrown surroundings raising concerns about students’ safety and access to quality education.
The deteriorating state of the facility has sparked concerns among residents over the future of children in the community, many of whom depend on the school for their secondary education.
MonITNG, a civic technology organisation that raised the alarm, called on the Kogi State Government, the Ministry of Education, relevant education agencies and Yagba East local government authorities to inspect the school and provide a clear rehabilitation plan.
The organisation also highlighted that Kogi State received ₦45.96 billion in Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) allocations between January and March 2026, questioning how public revenue translates into essential services for rural communities.

Speaking on the situation, MonITNG founder, Ilevbaoje Uadamen Imoukhuede, stressed that public resources should improve the lives of residents, particularly by providing children with safe and functional learning environments.
He urged the relevant authorities to explain what measures had been taken to address the school’s condition and when rehabilitation work could commence.
The development has renewed concerns about the state of educational infrastructure in rural communities, where abandoned or poorly maintained facilities can limit learning opportunities and place additional pressure on families.
Residents of Ejuku are now calling for urgent government intervention to restore Alalodu Secondary School and ensure that children in the community have access to a safe and conducive learning environment.
