The Kogi State Vigilante Service has arrested a 24-year-old man suspected of belonging to a kidnapping syndicate allegedly operating along the Kogi–Enugu state boundary.
The suspect, identified as Muhammad Babuga, was reportedly apprehended at Igabada, a border community between the two states, at about 7 p.m. on Thursday.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the service’s spokesperson, Idris S. Idris, operatives of the Igalamela Command carried out the arrest following credible intelligence.
The statement alleged that Babuga confessed to being a member of a criminal gang involved in kidnapping. He was also reportedly among individuals allegedly involved in the crime who had previously been released by the gang after a ransom was paid.
Reacting to the arrest, the Comptroller-General of the Kogi State Vigilante Service, Alhaji Ibrahim Usman Anataku, commended the operatives for their commitment and effective security operations.

He urged personnel to sustain their efforts in combating criminal activities and called on residents to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to help prevent crime and apprehend suspects.
Anataku also acknowledged the support of Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo, saying it had boosted personnel morale and improved the service’s operational effectiveness.
The vigilante service reaffirmed its commitment to working with other security agencies to tackle kidnapping and other criminal activities across the state.
The suspect’s alleged involvement remains an allegation; the arrest does not establish guilt.
