Tension has gripped Ejule in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State after suspected political thugs allegedly attacked a meeting of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), shooting at members and leaving several people injured.
The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday during a unit-to-unit mobilisation meeting attended by ADC supporters in the community.
According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers were allegedly led by a political enforcer identified as Besiru Mudi, popularly known as “Para.” The group reportedly stormed the meeting venue and opened fire, forcing members to flee in different directions for safety.
Several people were said to have sustained injuries during the attack and were taken to a health facility for medical attention.
Pictures from the scene showed chairs scattered and damaged around the meeting venue, while images from a health facility showed injured victims receiving treatment.
Some residents and eyewitnesses alleged that Mudi had previously been linked to election-related violence and other criminal activities in the area. These claims, however, have not been independently verified.
The attack has reportedly triggered reactions from civil society and community groups, with calls for security agencies to investigate the incident and bring anyone found responsible to justice.

Human rights advocates and opposition figures were also said to have petitioned security agencies, including the Department of State Services, Nigeria Police Force and Nigerian Army, over the incident.
As of Tuesday evening, there was no official confirmation of the attack from the Kogi State Police Command. Efforts to obtain a response from the command’s spokesperson were reportedly unsuccessful.
The incident comes amid growing political activities ahead of the 2027 elections, with concerns being raised over the safety of political meetings and supporters across the country.
