Katsina Forces Neutralize Over 40 Bandits, Foil Large-Scale Attack -

Security forces in Katsina State have recorded a major operational success after repelling a coordinated bandit assault on Guga community in Bakori Local Government Area, killing more than 40 suspected attackers.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday evening around 5:40 pm, involved over 200 heavily armed bandits reportedly led by notorious gang leader Idi Abasu Aiki, alongside members of a criminal faction linked to Zamfara State.

According to the state’s Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Muazu, prior intelligence played a critical role in the swift response of security operatives.

The timely intervention led to a fierce gun battle that forced the attackers to retreat with heavy losses.

Authorities confirmed that several high-ranking commanders within the criminal network were among those eliminated, while the gang leader, Aiki, is believed to have sustained life-threatening gunshot injuries.

The attackers were reportedly on a mission to overrun local defense structures, including vigilante groups and the Community Watch Corps, before advancing into Bakori town and surrounding communities.

However, coordinated resistance from security personnel successfully disrupted their plans.

Following the clash, security agencies launched clearance operations in the area, recovering weapons and intensifying patrols to prevent any further threats.

Despite the victory, the confrontation came at a cost, as four members of the local vigilante group lost their lives after being ambushed.

The Katsina State Government has expressed condolences to the families of the fallen defenders, acknowledging their sacrifice in protecting their community.

Officials have since assured residents that calm has been restored in Guga and nearby areas, reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening security collaborations and safeguarding lives and property across the state.
