
The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, Abbas Ibrahim, over the death of his elder brother, Basiru Shuaibu, following a fire incident in Gwaram Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred at about 11:30pm on September 29, 2026, at Nassarawa village in Gwaram LGA.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday.
According to the police, Ibrahim, who claimed to be of unsound mind, allegedly entered his elder brother’s residence, poured petrol inside his room and set it ablaze.
The fire reportedly left Basiru and his wife with serious burns.
Relatives later took the victims to a traditional medicine practitioner for treatment. However, Basiru eventually died from injuries sustained in the incident.
Following the incident, police operatives launched an investigation and arrested Ibrahim in Sara town, Gwaram LGA.

The case was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Dutse, for further investigation.
The police said the suspect had been arraigned in court for prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala, urged residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
He also advised members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities, threats and disputes to the police or other relevant security agencies.
