
The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Lawisi Safiyanu, over the alleged killing of a 25-year-old customer during a dispute involving a N500 balance from a mobile phone purchase.
The incident reportedly occurred around 12:30am on October 1, 2026, at Chamo village in Dutse Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, disclosed the development in a statement issued to journalists.
According to the police, preliminary investigations showed that the deceased, identified as Muhammad Abba, bought a mobile phone from Safiyanu for N1,500.
Abba reportedly paid N1,000 but was unable to immediately provide the remaining N500, leading to an argument between both men.

During the disagreement, Safiyanu allegedly used a knife to stab Abba.
The victim was rushed to Rashid Shekoni Teaching Hospital in Dutse for medical attention but reportedly died while receiving treatment.
Following the incident, police arrested the suspect and recovered the knife allegedly used in the attack as an exhibit.
The command said its investigation had been concluded and that Safiyanu had been charged to court to face the law.
