
Suspected bandits have reportedly killed a police inspector during an attack on travellers in the Shagari area of Katsina State.
The attackers were said to have been spotted moving through farmlands early in the morning towards Sanyin Nawal village.
According to reports, the bandits stopped some vehicles along the route and robbed passengers before proceeding to a nearby pond, where they reportedly bathed, ate and drank.

They later allegedly set a motorcycle on fire before moving through communities around Sanyin Nawal.
In the evening, around Maghrib, the attackers reportedly encountered a passenger vehicle while returning from the area and opened fire on it.
A police inspector, identified as Isah Muhammad Girkau, was reportedly hit by a bullet during the attack. He sustained serious injuries and later died.
The incident highlights the continued security challenges faced by travellers and residents along some roads leading to rural communities in Katsina State.
