Residents of Nsokpo Community in Ogbaku, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, have appealed to the state government to urgently intervene over worsening insecurity and the poor condition of major roads in the area.
The appeal was made by the Nsokpo Dynamic Association, which said the community had experienced repeated kidnappings and armed attacks in recent months. The association attributed the incidents to suspected herders and other criminal elements allegedly operating around surrounding bushlands.
According to the group, the insecurity has disrupted daily life, with farmers reportedly afraid to access their farms, traders shutting their businesses before dusk and parents keeping their children indoors early.
The association called for sustained security patrols, including day and night operations, as well as coordinated efforts to search bush areas around Nwaogwugwu, Ogbaku, Umunoha and Nsokpo.

It also appealed for support for community policing initiatives and local vigilante groups working alongside formal security agencies.
Beyond insecurity, the residents expressed concern over the poor state of the Nsokpo–Ifakala–Nwaorieubi Road and the Nsokpo–Lawa–Ohi Road, saying the deteriorating roads have made transportation difficult and increased the cost of moving farm produce and accessing markets.
The group urged the state government to reconstruct the affected roads and install streetlights in dark and high-risk areas.
The association said urgent intervention would help improve security, movement and economic activities within Nsokpo and neighbouring communities.
