Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have killed a commercial bus driver and abducted an unspecified number of passengers in Edo State.
The tragic incident occurred along a highway within the Iguobazuwa axis, as the vehicle was reportedly traveling from Lagos to the eastern part of the country when it came under heavy gunfire.
According to eyewitness accounts captured in a viral video, the attackers opened fire on the moving bus, forcing it to a stop before dragging passengers into the surrounding bush.
An unidentified narrator in the video alleged that the driver was shot dead on the spot, while most, if not all, of the passengers were taken away by the assailants.
“The kidnappers shot and killed the driver. They also took passengers into the bush. I don’t know the exact number, but it appears that almost everyone was taken,” the narrator said.
