A devastating rainstorm has claimed the lives of five people and destroyed several homes and properties in Bichi Local Government Area of Kano State, according to the Kano State Emergency Management Agency (KASEMA).
The agency’s Executive Secretary, Alhaji Isyaku Kubarachi, confirmed the casualty figure, stating that only five people died in the disaster, contrary to earlier reports that put the death toll at eight.
Kubarachi explained that KASEMA officials visited the affected community to assess the extent of the damage before confirming the number of casualties and the destruction caused by the storm.
He noted that the agency had completed its assessment and submitted a comprehensive report to the Kano State Government to facilitate the provision of emergency relief materials to victims.

According to him, assistance will be distributed to affected residents as soon as the state government releases the relief supplies.
The rainstorm, which struck the area on July 22, also left many families homeless after destroying houses and valuable property worth millions of naira.
Meanwhile, the Kano State House of Assembly has called on the state government to urgently support victims of the disaster.
The lawmakers made the appeal after adopting a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by the member representing Bichi Constituency, Lawan Shehu, during a plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Falgore.
The Assembly urged the government to provide immediate relief materials and other forms of assistance to ease the hardship faced by residents affected by the rainstorm.
