
A devastating incident has claimed the lives of five persons and left three others seriously injured along the Katcha highway in Niger State.
The tragedy occurred on the morning of April 20, 2026, along the Kupafu–Essa village axis when a trailer transporting cartons of milk and passengers from Lagos to Kano ran into a traffic obstruction.

In an attempt to navigate around the gridlock, the driver reportedly diverted the vehicle onto a bush path. During the maneuver, the trailer and its occupants came into contact with high-voltage power lines, leading to the instant electrocution of five individuals.
Three other passengers sustained severe injuries and were promptly rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Bida for urgent medical treatment.
Authorities confirmed that the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the General Hospital in Badeggi, Katcha, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the driver, who fled the scene after the incident.
The police have launched an investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
