The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has revealed that it rescued no fewer than 202 victims of human trafficking in Katsina State between January and July 2026.
The disclosure was made by the Katsina State Commander of NAPTIP, Musa Aliyu, during activities marking the 2026 World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, observed annually on July 30.
According to Aliyu, the rescued individuals include 147 females and 55 males, highlighting the continued vulnerability of women and children to trafficking networks. He noted that the agency is intensifying efforts to identify more victims and provide necessary support services.
Aliyu explained that the commemoration aims to raise awareness about the dangers of human trafficking and encourage collective responsibility in tackling the crime.
He said NAPTIP had earlier embarked on a series of sensitisation programmes ahead of the global observance, including radio discussions, television interviews, and a road walk across Katsina metropolis to educate residents.

“We initiated awareness campaigns through various media platforms and conducted a road walk from the Katsina GRA Flyover to NATO Park to engage the public directly,” he stated.
The commander emphasised the critical role of transport operators in combating trafficking, noting that they are often in a position to identify suspicious movements. He added that transport union leaders have pledged to collaborate with the agency by reporting suspected cases.
Aliyu further raised concerns over the rising trend of internal trafficking within the state, stressing that it is now more prevalent than cross-border trafficking.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, reiterating that the fight against human trafficking requires collective effort from all stakeholders.
The World Day Against Trafficking in Persons is dedicated to raising awareness about the plight of victims and promoting the protection of their rights, while encouraging governments and communities to strengthen actions against trafficking.
