The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Ogun State Command, has arrested a female visitor, identified as Mrs Iyabo Sowunmi, for allegedly attempting to smuggle suspected illicit drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Ibara, Abeokuta.
The incident reportedly occurred on Friday during a routine security screening at the main entrance of the correctional facility.
According to the Command, officers detected suspicious substances concealed inside a 1kg sachet of Milo beverage powder during the screening.
The substance was suspected to be “Colos,” a psychoactive synthetic drug that has become a concern among law enforcement authorities.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Odukoya Olayinka, confirmed the arrest on Monday.
He disclosed that Sowunmi was allegedly attempting to deliver the package to Dare Sowunmi, an inmate currently being held on death row at the facility.

Following her arrest, the suspect was handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The State Controller of Corrections, Abioye Adesina, commended the officers for remaining vigilant and enforcing the centre’s security protocols.
Adesina reiterated the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on the introduction of illicit drugs and other prohibited items into custodial facilities.
He warned that individuals caught attempting to compromise the security of correctional centres would face legal consequences.
The NCoS also urged members of the public to respect the rules governing visits to custodial facilities and refrain from attempting to introduce prohibited substances or items.
