Troops of the Nigerian Army’s Operation ENDURING PEACE have intercepted an alleged attempt to transport illicit firearms through Zak Village in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The operation, conducted on Saturday, August 29, followed a stop-and-search exercise during which soldiers flagged down a green Volkswagen Golf for inspection.
According to a statement released by the Nigerian Army on Sunday, troops discovered a concealed compartment reportedly fabricated inside the vehicle’s dashboard during the search.
The driver allegedly abandoned the vehicle and attempted to escape into a nearby bush after being ordered to open the compartment. Soldiers pursued and apprehended him.
The Army said the suspect later attempted to disarm one of the soldiers while he was being restrained, leading troops to respond, and he was subsequently killed.

A search of the concealed compartment reportedly led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, one magazine, two wooden rifle butts, nine magazine pouches, two camel bags, six jungle hats, a mobile phone and an ATM card.
The Army described the seizure as a significant disruption of efforts to move and circulate illegal firearms within the region.
It said troops, working alongside other security agencies, would continue intelligence-led operations and stop-and-search activities aimed at preventing the movement of weapons and other instruments of violence.
The military also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with credible information about suspicious movements and activities in their communities.
