At least eight farmers have been killed and five others injured after suspected bandits attacked Ghandi community in Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The attack reportedly occurred on Sunday afternoon when the assailants stormed the community at about 3pm and opened fire on farmers, throwing residents into panic.
The spokesman for the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmed Rufai, confirmed the incident, saying the command was aware of the attack and was gathering further information.
He disclosed that eight farmers were killed while five others sustained gunshot injuries.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the attackers targeted farmers in the community and began shooting at them.
The source alleged that the attack was carried out in retaliation for the killing of some members of the bandit group by security operatives during recent operations in the area.
The latest incident has heightened fear among residents of Ghandi and neighbouring communities, particularly farmers who depend on their farmlands for their livelihoods.
The attack also renewed concerns over the security situation in parts of Sokoto State, where armed groups have continued to threaten rural communities.
Security authorities are expected to provide further details as investigations into the incident continue.
