The Sokoto State Police Command says two suspected bandits have been killed and 11 suspects arrested during separate security operations across the state.
The operations, conducted between August 14 and 15, also led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, 54 rounds of live ammunition, magazines, a locally fabricated pistol and 14 stolen motorcycles.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, explaining that one of the operations followed an attempted bandit attack on Dankadu Village in Illela Local Government Area.
According to the police, operatives received a distress call around 9pm on August 15 that armed bandits were advancing towards the community from Tsauana Forest.
Anti-Kidnapping Unit operatives, members of the Volunteer Constabulary and Rescue Unit, alongside other tactical teams, were deployed to the area.
The security personnel reportedly engaged the attackers in a gun battle, forcing the suspected bandits to retreat into the forest with gunshot wounds.
A subsequent search reportedly led to the killing of two fleeing suspects and the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, two magazines and 54 rounds of ammunition.

Further investigations reportedly led to the arrest of other suspects allegedly connected to motorcycle theft, extortion, forgery and receiving stolen property.
The command said nine stolen motorcycles had so far been recovered in connection with the syndicate, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members still at large.
The Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, CP Hassan Hayatu Shaffa, commended the officers for their response and professionalism. He reiterated the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks across the state.
Shaffa also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the police. He warned members of the public against purchasing stolen motorcycles, stressing that anyone found dealing in stolen property would face prosecution.
