The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested six suspects in separate operations linked to phone snatching, violent disturbances and possession of dangerous weapons across Bauchi metropolis.
The arrests were disclosed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to the police, one of the incidents occurred during a Maulud procession along Kofar Fada last Monday, when a 25-year-old resident of Unguwan Mangororin Sale Toro reportedly had his mobile phone and cash stolen.
The victim told the police that a 20-year-old suspect, identified as Abdullahi Abubakar of Unguwan Ardo, allegedly snatched his phone valued at N50,000, along with N30,000 in cash.
The suspect reportedly handed the stolen phone to two alleged accomplices, identified as Al-Amin, also known as Busy, and Babale Sule, after the victim attempted to apprehend him.
Police said Sule allegedly struck the victim on the forehead with a stick, causing an injury, before Abubakar escaped from the scene.
The victim was treated and discharged from Under 5 Hospital, Jahun.
Following the incident, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) reportedly traced and arrested Abubakar, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and recover the stolen phone.

In another operation, the police said they responded to a distress call at about 9pm on Wednesday over an alleged disturbance involving youths armed with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons in the Mangororin Sale Toro area, through Shingen Abba.
VCRU operatives, working with community leaders, arrested three suspects identified as 18-year-old Manauwir Isa, 17-year-old Ayuba Umar Hassan and 18-year-old Umar Shuaibu.
The command also reported another violent incident at Jaja, through the Jahun area, where two additional suspects were arrested following a report of a fight.
The suspects were identified as 20-year-old Yahaya Abdullahi of Gwabba, through Nassarawan Jahun, and 17-year-old Abdulrazak Rabiu of the same address.
Police said the two were found in possession of a sharpened cutlass.
The command said the three cases are currently under investigation, while efforts continue to arrest other suspects believed to be involved.
The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the officers for their prompt response and professionalism.
He also urged residents to provide timely information to the police to assist security agencies in preventing crime and protecting lives and property across the state.
