
Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged vandalism of transmission equipment belonging to Africa Independent Television (AIT), valued at approximately ₦150 million.
The suspects, identified as Martins Donatus, 26, and Mohammed Abubakar, 28, were apprehended along the Benin–Idogbo Road in the Ikhueniro community.
Speaking while parading the suspects alongside other alleged criminals in Benin City on Tuesday, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor, said the command received a report of vandalism at the AIT premises on August 10, 2026.
According to the police commissioner, the suspects were found in possession of equipment stolen from the television station’s master control room.
He disclosed that the stolen items, estimated to be worth about ₦150 million, had been recovered.

Daaor added that the suspects are cooperating with investigators to help identify and apprehend other members of the alleged criminal network.
In a separate operation, the police command also arrested two suspects linked to the theft of Toyota Highlander SUVs.
The commissioner explained that a surveillance team attached to the Okhoro Division intercepted two Toyota Highlander vehicles suspected to have been stolen or abandoned at Five Junction, off Iheya–Uselu Lagos Road in Benin City, on August 15, 2026.
Preliminary investigations confirmed that one of the vehicles had been stolen from its owner.
Police also recovered a toy gun during a search of one of the vehicles.
Authorities said investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the recovered vehicles and identify those responsible.
