The Abia State Environmental Protection Agency, Aba Zone, has sealed a residential building at No. 16 Ibadan Street, Aba, after officials discovered more than 100 bags of human faeces stored inside the premises.
The discovery was made on Tuesday during a routine inspection of the building.
According to ASEPA, officials found the bags of human waste stored within the premises, while four basins containing human excreta were also discovered in the corridor.
The agency further reported that a sewage tank was found inside one of the downstairs rooms, directly beneath a bed where occupants reportedly slept.
ASEPA described the situation as a serious environmental and public health concern, warning that the conditions could create an environment capable of triggering the spread of disease.
Following the discovery, the agency sealed the premises pursuant to a court order pending further investigation and corrective measures.
Authorities have not officially established why such a large quantity of human faeces was being stored inside the building.

However, some residents who reacted to ASEPA’s social media post alleged that the faeces were being sold to farmers for about N10,000 per bag for use as manure.
ASEPA has not confirmed the allegation and said it had yet to establish whether the faeces were intended for agricultural purposes.
The agency said the building would remain sealed until the occupants comply with required health and environmental standards.
ASEPA also urged residents to report similar environmental violations to the authorities to help protect public health in Aba.
