Domestic Dispute Turns Tragic in Bauchi as Newborn Dies After Alleged Hot Water Attack -

A tragic domestic incident in Bauchi State has resulted in the death of a newborn baby after a woman allegedly poured hot water on her pregnant co-wife during a dispute.

The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the arrest of a 20-year-old suspect, identified as Rabi Abubakar, in connection with the incident. The attack reportedly occurred on July 17, 2026, in Daba Village, located within Bauchi Local Government Area.

According to police reports, the suspect allegedly poured boiling water on her 30-year-old co-wife during a domestic altercation.

The victim sustained severe burn injuries and was immediately rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, where she received medical attention.

While undergoing treatment, the injured woman delivered a baby boy on July 19. However, the newborn, who also suffered critical burn injuries, sadly died the same day.

Authorities disclosed that the mother is currently in stable condition and responding to treatment.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, stated that the case was reported on July 22 by officers from the Dabe Police Outstation in the Soro Division.

Following the report, operatives swiftly launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of the suspect.

Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect allegedly confessed to committing the act during interrogation. She remains in police custody, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the act, describing it as unacceptable. He assured the public that the command would ensure justice is served in accordance with the law.

The police also urged residents to resolve domestic conflicts peacefully and report cases of violence promptly to authorities to prevent further tragedies.
