The Dangote Group has refuted a viral social media claim alleging that the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu makes revenue from every bag of cement sold in Nigeria.
The claim, which spread widely on Facebook and other platforms, falsely attributed a statement to Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, and suggested that the government collects a fixed amount from each bag of cement sold.
The post triggered reactions online, with many users questioning the country’s tax structure and cement pricing.
In a swift response, the Dangote Group dismissed the report as false. The company shared a screenshot of the viral message on its official X (formerly Twitter) account and labelled it “Fake,” distancing itself from the comments and figures being circulated.

The incident highlights growing concerns about misinformation on social media, particularly the increasing use of fabricated posts and AI-generated content to push political narratives and influence public opinion.
Meanwhile, Aliko Dangote has been named in the 2026 TIME100 list of the world’s most influential people by TIME Magazine. He is the only Nigerian on the list this year and is featured in the “Titans” category.
This marks his second appearance on the prestigious global ranking, following his first inclusion in 2014 in recognition of his contributions to business and philanthropy.
TIME also highlighted his role in advancing industrial development across Africa through investments in cement, agriculture, energy, and infrastructure.
