Residents in Lagos have raised fresh concerns over security following the discovery of two bodies in the Lagos Lagoon along Awolowo Way.
Reports indicate that the incidents occurred within a five-month span, with the first body found in February 2026 and the second recovered on May 18, 2026.
Both discoveries have sparked fear among residents, particularly due to the proximity of the location to highly secured areas, including the Bonny Camp Military Cantonment and the Naval Dockyard.
Eyewitness accounts revealed that the most recent body was seen floating among plastic waste and debris before officials of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service evacuated it.
A resident identified as Fowler noted that such incidents, though disturbing, reflect the harsh realities of urban living, suggesting that bodies could have been transported from other locations before ending up in the lagoon.
He further described the scene, stating that both bodies were surrounded by refuse, including plastic bottles, shoes, and other discarded materials, highlighting the environmental state of the waterway.
