Poland defender Przemysław Wiśniewski says he didn’t plan a big celebration after scoring against Nigeria because the moment caught him off guard and he was exhausted.
The 27-year-old struck a late long-range goal in the 90th minute of Wednesday’s friendly in Warsaw to level the game at 2-2. His effort beat Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye and cancelled out Paul Onuachu’s penalty for Nigeria in a tightly contested match.
Speaking after the game, Wiśniewski explained that his muted reaction was down to fatigue and surprise at how the shot went in.
“I didn’t have a planned celebration because I don’t score often,” he told _Przegladsportowy_. “I just struck it, and it went in – pure instinct. I was fatigued in the 90th minute, so I wasn’t inclined to run around; I merely raised my hands. I’m pleased to have scored such a first goal.”

The goal was Wiśniewski’s first for Poland since making his debut against the Netherlands in a World Cup qualifier in September 2025. He admitted he rarely practices shots like that in training and isn’t sure he can repeat it soon.
“I don’t know if I’ll be able to repeat it soon. I don’t score shots like that in training,” he added.
Nigeria will now shift focus to their next friendly against Portugal as they continue preparations for upcoming international fixtures.
