
A tragic multi-vehicle collision along the busy Lagos-Apapa Expressway has claimed the life of a commercial driver, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
In a statement released on Tuesday, LASTMA spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, disclosed that the accident involved a commercial minibus and a Toyota Tundra.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the minibus driver sustained severe injuries from the impact and died instantly at the scene.
Taofiq explained that LASTMA officials, who were on routine traffic monitoring within the corridor, responded promptly to the incident.
The team secured the accident site, coordinated emergency efforts, and managed traffic to prevent further congestion along the heavily used route.
“The driver of the commercial minibus suffered grievous injuries due to the devastating collision and was confirmed dead at the scene,” the statement read.

The remains of the deceased were handed over to his family, while the damaged vehicles were cleared from the road to restore normal traffic flow.
Authorities confirmed that the vehicles have been transferred to the Nigeria Police Force for a comprehensive investigation to determine both immediate and underlying causes of the crash, as well as establish liability.
Despite the disruption caused by the accident, LASTMA noted that swift intervention ensured that vehicular movement was quickly restored.
Reacting to the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, extended condolences to the bereaved family.
He also called on motorists, especially commercial drivers, to adhere strictly to traffic regulations and prioritize road safety at all times.
This incident adds to growing concerns over road safety on major highways, reinforcing the urgent need for caution, discipline, and responsible driving among all road users.
