A 25-year-old student of the Bauchi State College of Health, Ningi, Rose Fanus, has appealed to individuals, organisations and philanthropists for financial assistance to enable her continue treatment for kidney failure.
Fanus is currently undergoing dialysis at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, following the diagnosis of kidney failure.
According to the student, her health challenge began in December 2025 when she initially developed symptoms she believed were malaria. She experienced fever and severe vomiting and was taken to a hospital by her mother, where she received treatment and was later discharged.
However, her condition reportedly worsened after she returned home. Fanus said her stomach became swollen while her legs and face began retaining fluid.

She was subsequently taken back to ATBUTH, where doctors conducted further tests after her condition failed to improve.
“They asked us to carry out some tests, and that was when they discovered that my kidneys had failed,” she said.
A medical report from ATBUTH, signed by the unit consultant, Dr Khamis Abdulsalam, confirmed her condition.
Fanus is appealing for financial support to sustain her dialysis and other treatment while hoping to continue her education and pursue her life ambitions.
