
Armed bandits have killed one person and abducted a husband and wife during an early morning attack on Makera town in Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The incident reportedly occurred around 2:30 a.m. on May 3, when the assailants invaded the community located along the Kontagora–Lagos highway.
According to security sources, the attackers shot a resident identified as Aminu Yusufa, who later died while receiving treatment at a hospital in Makera.
During the attack, the gunmen also kidnapped a couple, Alhaji Umaru Garba and Hajiya Marwa Umaru, taking them to an undisclosed location.
In response, the Divisional Police Officer mobilised a joint team of police personnel and local vigilantes to pursue the attackers and rescue the victims.

Efforts are currently ongoing to track down the suspects and secure the release of those abducted.
In a separate development, residents of Woko community in Borgu Local Government Area successfully repelled another bandit attack on the night of May 2.
The attackers had stormed the village, firing sporadically, but were met with resistance from local residents who organised themselves to defend the community.
During the confrontation, one of the bandits was neutralised, while others fled the scene with gunshot injuries.
A police tactical team, alongside local hunters and vigilantes, later arrived at the scene and recovered the body of the deceased attacker as well as a locally made shotgun.
Security presence has since been reinforced in the affected areas, while investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
