Security forces repelled an attack by bandits targeting a tactical base for community watchmen and hunters in Sukunkumi village, Kankia Local Government Area, on March 26.
A quick response team engaged about 15 heavily armed insurgents who arrived on motorcycles intending to overrun the facility in the evening. According to security sources and counter insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, an intense gun battle forced the attackers to abandon their mission and flee into the surrounding bush.
Security operatives recovered three motorcycles after the clash. Two had previously been seized from local hunters by the criminal gang.

One member of the Community Watch Corps, 30 year old Yusuf Ibrahim, sustained a gunshot wound to his left leg during the exchange. He was evacuated to General Hospital, Kankia, where he is receiving treatment.
Military and police authorities have since intensified clearance operations and patrols across the Kankia axis. The measures aim to track the fleeing suspects, many believed to have escaped with injuries, and to strengthen security for rural communities.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements as the manhunt continues.
