Operatives of the Borno State Police Command have recovered an unexploded hand grenade from a drainage slab in the Moduganari area of Maiduguri, the state capital.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Nahum Daso, the incident was reported at about 12:40 p.m. on Saturday, prompting an immediate response from officers attached to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Base 13 in Maiduguri.
Daso explained that the operation was carried out on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, after residents alerted authorities about a suspicious object discovered in the area.

The police team quickly secured the scene and safely recovered the unexploded ordnance, which was later identified as a hand grenade.
Authorities said the explosive device has been taken into custody for further examination, while investigations are ongoing to determine how it ended up in the drainage and where it originated.
The Commissioner of Police commended residents for their vigilance and for promptly reporting the suspicious object, describing their actions as a crucial step in preventing a potential tragedy.
The command also advised members of the public to avoid touching, moving, or attempting to handle any suspected explosive devices. Instead, residents were encouraged to immediately notify security agencies whenever they encounter suspicious objects.
