Suspected bandits have attacked the residence of the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, in Zamfara State, killing a security guard and abducting several residents during a series of overnight raids across the community.
The attack reportedly occurred in the early hours of Tuesday when the armed men stormed the rector’s residence. The security guard on duty was shot and killed while attempting to protect the property.
The rector, Dr. Aminu Yusuf, alongside his wife and daughter, reportedly escaped by climbing over the perimeter fence. During the escape, he was said to have sustained a leg injury but managed to avoid being kidnapped.
After leaving the residence, the attackers reportedly moved to another part of Kaura Namoda, where they abducted the wife and daughter of a resident identified simply as Ibrahim.

The gunmen also attempted to attack the home of businessman Alhaji Salisu Azaria. However, security personnel responded quickly, forcing the attackers to flee before carrying out the abduction.
In another incident during the same operation, the assailants reportedly stormed the Low-Cost area of the town and kidnapped a university lecturer, Dr. Namadina Hamza.
The coordinated attacks created fear among residents, many of whom fled their homes as the gunmen moved through different parts of the community.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had not released an official statement on the incident, while efforts to track down the attackers and rescue the abducted victims were said to be ongoing.
