Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have successfully thwarted several kidnap attempts and rescued the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, Dr. Aminu Yusuf, alongside other victims during separate security operations in Zamfara State.
According to the military, the first operation followed a distress call in the early hours of Monday after armed terrorists attacked the rector’s residence in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area. During the attack, the gunmen reportedly killed a private security guard and injured another resident before attempting to abduct Dr. Yusuf and members of his family.
Security personnel responded swiftly, engaging the attackers in a gunfight that forced them to flee the scene. The rector and his family were rescued without sustaining injuries.
In a separate operation later the same day, troops on night patrol responded to another emergency call from Tungan Dorawa community in Barkeji Village, where suspected terrorists were attempting to kidnap residents. Despite difficult terrain, the soldiers tracked down the fleeing suspects and disrupted the abduction attempt.

The military also disclosed that troops confronted another group of armed men in the same community who were allegedly targeting a prominent businessman, Alhaji Azaria. The intervention forced the attackers to abandon their mission, leading to the rescue of the businessman and 21 other civilians who had been abducted from nearby homes.
During the operations, troops arrested a 45-year-old suspected terrorist informant identified as Falalu Yusuf. Military authorities said the suspect has been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA praised the courage and professionalism of the troops, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening security and protecting communities across Zamfara State and the wider North-West region.
