A man identified as Kabir Sani has been arrested by the Katsina State Police Command over the alleged killing of his teenage daughter, Ummul Khair, after she reportedly refused to marry a man he had chosen for her.
The suspect, a commercial driver and resident of the Shagari Low-Cost area of Katsina metropolis, was arrested by operatives of the Katsina Central Market Police Division following the incident.
According to residents, the teenager, believed to be between 16 and 18 years old, had repeatedly opposed her father’s attempts to force her into marriage, a disagreement that reportedly created tension within the family.
Witnesses alleged that the father began beating the girl on Wednesday. Neighbours who heard her cries said they repeatedly knocked on the family’s door in an effort to intervene, but the suspect allegedly refused to allow anyone into the house.

The assault reportedly continued until Thursday morning, when the teenager became unconscious.
The incident came to light after some of the deceased’s friends visited the house on Thursday morning to accompany her to school. They reportedly found her lifeless while her father was preparing to bury her and immediately alerted neighbours, who contacted the police.
The teenager was buried later on Thursday at the Abbatoir Cemetery in Katsina metropolis in accordance with Islamic rites.
Police sources confirmed that the suspect remains in custody while detectives investigate the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death.
Reacting to the incident, the spokesperson for the Katsina State Police Command, DSP Sadik Aliyu, confirmed that the police were aware of the case and said further details would be made available after
the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.
