The Nigerian Army has confirmed the abduction of six Islamic scholars in Zamfara State by suspected bandits.
The Army, however, dismissed reports that the clerics were kidnapped at the residence of former Zamfara State Governor, Abdul’aziz Yari, in Talata Mafara Local Government Area.
According to the Army, the victims were abducted while travelling from the Sububu forest axis in Bakura Local Government Area towards Talata Mafara.
The incident reportedly occurred around Gidan Suleiman Bature in Gonar Sarkin Forest, about three kilometres from Damri village.

The Zamfara State Police Command also confirmed the abduction, stating that six Juma’at Imams were taken and that a rescue operation had been intensified to secure their safe return.
The clerics were reportedly travelling to Talata Mafara to attend a special prayer session organised for peace and the success of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
The Army said troops, alongside other security agencies and local intelligence networks, are working to rescue the abducted scholars.
It urged residents to remain calm and vigilant while providing security agencies with timely information that could assist the rescue operation.
