Residents of a quiet border settlement in Logo Local Government Area were thrown into terror late Sunday night, April 26, 2026, as suspected armed herdsmen launched a deadly attack, killing at least seven people and injuring several others.
The attack, which occurred in Ukemberagya/Tswarev Council Ward along the busy Arufu–Wukari road linking Benue State and Taraba State, reportedly began around 11pm when gunmen stormed the community, firing sporadically and forcing residents to flee into nearby bushes.
In the chaos, families were torn apart, homes abandoned overnight, and fear spread rapidly across neighbouring villages.
A local resident, Amos, described the scene as sudden and overwhelming, saying the attackers arrived in large numbers and struck without warning.
Community leader Joseph Anawah confirmed multiple casualties, naming six victims while noting that others suffered serious injuries and are receiving treatment in hospitals in Anyiin and Ugba towns.

According to Anawah, the attackers were heavily armed and moved on motorcycles, allegedly operating from a known camp in a deserted village within the area.
He warned that the growing presence of such groups in remote settlements continues to put rural communities at risk.
Chairman of Logo Local Government Area, Clement Kav, also confirmed the incident, stating that seven people lost their lives while four others were injured during the attack.
He added that the attackers carried out the assault swiftly before retreating.
Following the tragedy, many residents of surrounding communities have begun fleeing their homes, fearing another attack.
Local authorities say the incident has been reported to security agencies, with efforts underway to strengthen surveillance, improve inter-state security collaboration, and prevent further bloodshed in the area.
