The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of its chairman, Hon. Oyewole Mayowa Solomon.
Solomon reportedly slumped during a peace and reconciliation meeting held on Friday at Iyara Town Hall, the headquarters of Ijumu Local Government Area.
According to reports, the meeting was underway when the APC chairman suddenly collapsed, leaving party leaders, delegates and other participants in shock and confusion.
Efforts were immediately made to assist him, after which he was rushed to a medical facility in neighbouring Kabba. However, he was reportedly pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
The meeting had been convened by former Ijumu Local Government chairman, Funsho Olumoko, as part of efforts to resolve internal disagreements and promote unity among APC stakeholders in the area.
The reconciliation initiative came after an earlier stakeholders’ meeting in Iyara where APC members expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo. That meeting, however, reportedly witnessed disagreements concerning local government leadership.
Friday’s meeting was expected to bring together political leaders, ward and local government executives, women and youth leaders, as well as government appointees from the 15 wards in Ijumu.
The sudden death of Solomon has cast a sombre mood over the party’s reconciliation efforts in Ijumu and Kogi West.
Reacting to the incident, APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Durosinmi Meseko, described Solomon as a loyal, committed and dependable party member whose death was a major loss to the APC family.

The member representing Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Salman Idris, also described the death as devastating, noting the painful circumstances under which the party chairman died while attending a meeting aimed at promoting peace and unity.
The exact medical cause of Solomon’s sudden death had not been officially disclosed as of the time of filing the report.
