The Airport Police Command has arrested a 17-year-old boy in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl in the Sabo Masalashi area of Bassa, Abuja.
The incident was reportedly brought to the attention of the police by the girl’s mother, who made a complaint at the Abuja Airport Police Division.
According to the police, the suspect allegedly gained access to the girl by pretending to be interested in purchasing the soya bean cake she was selling before taking her into a room, where the alleged assault occurred.
Following the report, police officers reportedly arranged for the girl to receive medical attention and launched an operation that led to the suspect’s arrest.

The police said the suspect remains in custody while investigations continue. His statement was reportedly obtained in the presence of his mother, in line with procedures governing cases involving juvenile suspects.
Authorities also said measures have been put in place to protect the girl’s welfare and provide appropriate support as the investigation progresses.
The Commissioner of Police, Airport Police Command, Olufunke Ogunbode, condemned the alleged incident and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to addressing sexual violence and protecting vulnerable persons.
Police said the suspect is expected to appear before a juvenile court with appropriate jurisdiction after the investigation is concluded.
