
A 33-year-old man, Ifechukwu Okechukwu, has been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command for allegedly killing his 23-year-old girlfriend and secretly burying her in Nkpor, Anambra State.
The suspect was picked up after a disturbing video of the exhumation of the corpse went viral on social media and residents provided credible information to the police. Command spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest on Monday, June 16, 2026, and said Okechukwu is under investigation for murder and unlawful burial.

Police operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department have taken over the case. They are conducting detailed inquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and to ensure the suspect faces prosecution. According to the command, the case was reported by concerned members of the public whose timely information led to the arrest.
In a related development, three other suspects were also arrested for child abuse in Odume Layout, Isiowulu. The suspects, Chukwudi Chukwuyere, 40; Chisom Chukwuyere, 30; and Arum Goodluck, 16, are accused of inflicting serious injuries on a 10-year-old boy.
During interrogation, Chisom confessed to using burning plastic to cause burns on the child. The victim has received medical care and support while police gather evidence for prosecution.
Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, said the command remains committed to protecting lives and property and bringing offenders to justice. He urged residents to keep reporting suspicious activities through the command’s emergency lines and nearest police stations.
