The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested five suspects in separate operations over alleged burglary and possession of substances suspected to be cannabis in Bauchi metropolis.
The arrests were made by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) during routine patrols conducted on August 3.
According to the police, officers intercepted a tricycle in the Doya Quarters area carrying three occupants. A search of the vehicle reportedly led to the recovery of several household items, including boxes of new shoes, clothing, jewellery, a 6kg gas cylinder, a 32-inch flat-screen television and a table gas cooker.
Preliminary investigations allegedly linked the recovered items to a burglary at a residence in the Unguwar Sarakuna area. Police said the homeowner’s family later identified the items, while reporting that some personal belongings, including clothing and a gold earring, were still unaccounted for.
In a separate operation later that day, VCRU operatives arrested two men in the Bayan Gari area after allegedly discovering them exchanging parcels containing dry leaves suspected to be cannabis. The substances were recovered, and further investigations were launched to determine their origin.

The police said investigations into both incidents are ongoing, while efforts have been intensified to arrest another suspect who remains at large in connection with the burglary and to identify the alleged supplier of the suspected drugs.
The Command added that the suspects would be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu commended the VCRU operatives for their professionalism and vigilance, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to combating crime across Bauchi State. He also urged residents to continue providing useful information to support ongoing security efforts.
