A 19-year-old Lagos woman, identified as Ugo Rejoice, has appealed against the imprisonment of her father, Uche Didie, despite alleging that he sexually abused her for years.
Rejoice alleged that the abuse began in 2019 when she was 12 and continued until she disclosed the matter on September 6, 2026. She claimed her father repeatedly threatened her with violence and warned her not to tell anyone.
According to her, she eventually confided in a close friend, leading the matter to be reported to their pastor and subsequently to the police. Didie was arrested by members of the OPC before being handed over to the Police Tactical Unit and later transferred to the Gender Unit.

Despite wanting the alleged abuse to stop, Rejoice said she does not want her father imprisoned because she fears the impact it could have on the family. She instead plans to leave her parents’ home and stay with her grandmother or aunt.
However, Didie has disputed part of her account, claiming in a video that the alleged sexual relationship only began in 2026.
The matter remains under investigation.
