A fire outbreak in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, has destroyed property estimated at millions of naira in a residential building.
The incident occurred at about 3:56 p.m. on Thursday in a building located near Ile-Anu Wofem Church, behind the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) in the Asa-Dam area of the metropolis.
According to the Kwara State Fire Service spokesman, Hassan Adekunle, the affected property consisted of three-bedroom flats and a room-and-parlour self-contained apartment.
He said the fire extensively affected three bedrooms before firefighters arrived at the scene.
Adekunle explained that the fire had already spread considerably by the time the emergency call was made to the fire service, giving the firefighters a more challenging task.
Despite the situation, he said the firefighters were able to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to the adjoining block of room-and-parlour apartments.
A preliminary assessment indicated that the fire may have been triggered by a power surge, which reportedly ignited combustible materials inside the affected section of the building.

The Chief Fire Officer of the Kwara State Fire Service, Alabi Muhammed, urged residents to take electrical safety seriously by ensuring that their electrical installations are regularly inspected and maintained by qualified professionals.
He also advised residents to immediately alert the fire service whenever they notice a fire outbreak.
Muhammed stressed that prompt notification is crucial, as early intervention gives firefighters a better chance of controlling fires before they spread and cause greater damage.
