Security operatives have arrested a suspected member of the Lakurawa terrorist group in connection with an attack on worshippers at a Juma’at mosque in Dekara, within the Borgu axis of Niger State.
The suspect was reportedly apprehended over his alleged involvement in the attack, which took place several weeks ago and resulted in the deaths of some worshippers, while several others were abducted.
According to security intelligence cited in the report, the arrest could provide investigators with vital information about the armed group’s activities and its network operating around the affected communities.
The mosque attack had heightened security concerns in the Borgu area, with residents reportedly living under increased fear following the movement of armed men who invaded the place of worship and allegedly took away a number of worshippers.
Photographs of some of the abducted victims later circulated, drawing attention to the scale of the incident and the plight of families whose relatives remained missing.

Security agencies are expected to question the arrested suspect to obtain further information about the attackers, their collaborators and the possible location of victims who are yet to regain their freedom.
As of the time of the report, authorities had not released the identity of the suspect or provided detailed information on the operation that led to his arrest.
The development comes amid continued security challenges confronting communities in parts of Niger State, where attacks and abductions have raised concerns over the safety of residents and worshippers.
